Newsbrief: California-based Yacht Club Games confirmed on Twitter that it has sold more than 300,000 copies of its retro-inspired platformer Shovel Knight since the Kickstarted game was first released for PC and the Nintendo eShop in June.

That's double the goal of 150,000 units sold that Yacht Club set for itself when planning the launch of Shovel Knight, then trounced by selling 180,000 copies of the game in the month following its release.

Last month the game was belatedly released on the European eShop, which may account for the recent sales milestone.

For a deeper look into the design factors that may be driving these sales, check out the Shovel Knight postmortem published on Gamasutra. If that's not enough, Yacht Club's David D'Angelo also took a Deep Dive into the design of Chester, one of the more iconic Shovel Knight characters.
