Today, Toronto-based mobile monetization and ad platform company Fuse Powered announced the acquisition of Palo Alto-based Corona, which makes the Corona SDK 2D mobile game engine.
According to Fuse Powered, 300,000 developers use Corona's tools worldwide.
Corona SDK works across iOS, Android, and Windows Phone, and has become a popular toolset for creating mobile games. Fuse Powered offers an ad-based mobile monetization platform with analytics.
"Together, we’ll continue investing in the Corona platform and bringing the quality of tools you have come to expect. We're also looking forward to what comes next: the opportunity to deliver our market leading IAP and ad monetization solution to Corona’s publisher community and developing the next generation of revenue generating products that are truly revolutionary," Fuse Powered CEO Jon Walsh wrote in a blog
about the acquisition.
Corona is not alone in wanting to be hooked up to a monetization and services platform. This year, Unity acquired ad network and social video company Applifier
, and analytics company Playnomics
in a bid to increase its service offering to mobile game developers, a strategy its co-founder David Helgason has told Gamasutra
the company will continue to pursue.
