Saling The World: Just Dance 2 Leads Black Ops On Multiplatform Charts

Gamasutra's weekly column, "Saling The World", covers the top five sellers for every available platform in the United States, Japan, and Europe, providing an important update of sales patterns worldwide.

This week's charts, with data taken from December 9th, 2010, find Ubisoft's Just Dance 2 heading multiplatform sales in North America and Europe, while Capcom's Monster Hunter Portable 3rd reports impressive sales in Japan.

Data for "Saling The World" comes courtesy of the public sales information on Amazon.com, Amazon.co.uk, and Amazon.co.jp, with sales split out for each platform and territory, and pre-orders disregarded. This results in a true sense of what games are selling worldwide on the real-time updated service, as follows:

Multiplatform
North America: 1. Just Dance 2 (Ubisoft, Wii), 2. Call of Duty: Black Ops (Activision, X360), 3. Epic Mickey (Disney, Wii), 4. Donkey Kong Country Returns (Nintendo, Wii), 5. Call of Duty: Black Ops (Activision, PS3).

Japan: 1. Monster Hunter Portable 3rd (Capcom, PSP), 2. Ninokuni: Shikkoku no Madoushi (Level 5, DS), 3. Donkey Kong Returns (Nintendo, Wii), 4. Wii Party (Nintendo, Wii), 5. Pocket Monsters Black (Nintendo, DS).

UK: 1. Just Dance 2 (Ubisoft, Wii), 2. Call of Duty: Black Ops (Activision, X360), 3. Professor Layton and the Lost Future (Nintendo, DS), 4. Call of Duty: Black Ops (Activision, PS3), 5. Donkey Kong Country Returns (Nintendo, Wii).

Ubisoft's Just Dance 2 overtakes Call of Duty: Black Ops to become this week's top software seller across all platforms in North America. Epic Mickey maintains strong sales at third, as Donkey Kong Country Returns trails close behind at fourth.

Level 5 and Studio Ghibli's Ninokuni: Shikkoku no Madoushi comes up short against reigning chart champ Monster Hunter Portable 3rd in Japan, meanwhile, as Just Dance 2 and Black Ops remain big sellers in the UK.


Nintendo Wii
North America: 1. Just Dance 2 (Ubisoft), 2. Epic Mickey (Disney), 3. Donkey Kong Country Returns (Nintendo), 4. uDraw Studio (THQ), 5. New Super Mario Bros. Wii (Nintendo).

Japan: 1. Donkey Kong Returns (Nintendo), 2. Wii Party (Nintendo), 3. Mario Sports Mix (Nintendo), 4. Keito no Kirby (Nintendo), 5. Wii Sports Resort - Wii Remote Plus Bundle (Nintendo).

UK: 1. Just Dance 2 (Ubisoft), 2. Donkey Kong Country Returns (Nintendo), 3. Just Dance (Ubisoft), 4. Michael Jackson: The Experience (Ubisoft), 5. Mario Kart Wii (Nintendo).

Donkey Kong Country Returns and Epic Mickey report big sales in North America this week, as THQ's tablet accessory-bundled uDraw leads over New Super Mario Bros. at fourth place.

Donkey Kong Country Returns also makes strong showings in Europe and Japan (as Donkey Kong Returns), as newcomer Mario Sports Mix enters the Japanese charts at third place.


Xbox 360
North America: 1. Call of Duty: Black Ops (Activision), 2. Kinect Sports (Microsoft), 3. Dance Central (MTV Games), 4. Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood (Ubisoft), 5. Madden NFL 11 (EA Sports).

Japan: 1. Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood (Ubisoft), 2. Your Shape: Fitness Evolved (Ubisoft), 3. Dance Evolution (Konami), 4. Kinect Animals - Limited Edition (Microsoft), 5. Forza Motorsport 3 - Ultimate Edition (Microsoft).

UK: 1. Call of Duty: Black Ops (Activision), 2. Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood (Ubisoft), 3. FIFA 11 (EA Sports), 4. Kinect Sports (Microsoft), 5. Fable III (Microsoft).

Kinect software sales ramp up as the holiday season approaches, with Kinect Sports and Dance Central outselling Ubisoft's Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood in this week's North American charts.

Ubisoft captures the top two chart spots in Japan with Brotherhood and the Kinect-compatible Your Shape: Fitness Evolved, as Fable III remains a big seller in the UK.


PlayStation 3
North America: 1. Call of Duty: Black Ops (Activision), 2. Gran Turismo 5 (SCEA), 3. PlayStation Move Starter Bundle (SCEA), 4. Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood (Ubisoft), 5. Need for Speed: Hot Pursuit (EA Games).

Japan: 1. Tales of Graces F (Namco), 2. Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood (Ubisoft), 3. Gran Turismo 5 (SCEI), 4. Gran Turismo 5 - Limited Edition (SCEI), 5. Call of Duty: Black Ops - Subtitled Edition (Square Enix).

UK: 1. Call of Duty: Black Ops (Activision), 2. Gran Turismo 5 (SCEE), 3. Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood (Ubisoft), 4. FIFA 11 (EA Sports), 5. Need for Speed: Hot Pursuit (EA Games).

Call of Duty: Black Ops replaces Gran Turismo 5 as the PlayStation 3's biggest software seller in North America, while Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood, Need for Speed: Hot Pursuit, and the PlayStation Move hardware bundle round out the domestic top five.

Namco's Tales of Graces F debuts as the platform's top seller in Japan, as Gran Turismo 5 trails Black Ops in Europe.


PC
North America: 1. World of Warcraft: Cataclysm (Blizzard), 2. StarCraft II: Wings of Liberty (Blizzard), 3. The Sims 3: Late Night (EA Games), 4. Sid Meier's Civilization V (2K Games), 5. World of Warcraft: Cataclysm - Limited Edition (Blizzard).

Japan: 1. Ragnarok Online 8th Anniversary Package (E Frontier), 2. Dragon Nest - Premium Package (E Frontier), 3. The Tower of Aion 2.0 Master's Kit (E Frontier), 4. Monster Hunter Frontier Online Anniversary 2010 Premium Package (E Frontier), 5. The Sims 3: Late Night (EA Games).

UK: 1. Football Manager 2010 (Sega), 2. World of Warcraft: Cataclysm (Blizzard), 3. Call of Duty: Black Ops (Activision), 4. The Sims 3 (EA Games), 5. The Sims 3: Late Night (EA Games).

Blizzard's World of Warcraft expansion Cataclysm surges to the top of the PC charts in North America and takes second place in the UK this week, though the title fails to chart among the top five multiplatform sellers in either region.

StarCraft II gets a stateside sales boost, meanwhile, as E Frontier heads PC sales in Japan with Ragnarok Online 8th Anniversary Package, Dragon Nest, and The Tower of Aion 2.0.


Nintendo DS
North America: 1. Super Scribblenauts (Warner Bros.), 2. New Super Mario Bros. (Nintendo), 3. Mario Kart DS (Nintendo), 4. Professor Layton and the Unwound Future (Nintendo), 5. Toy Story 3 (Disney).

Japan: 1. Ninokuni: Shikkoku no Madoushi (Level 5), 2. Pocket Monsters Black (Nintendo), 3. Pocket Monsters White (Nintendo), 4. Tongari Boushi to Mahou no Otana (Konami), 5. Mario vs. Donkey Kong: Totsugeki! Mini-Land (Nintendo).

UK: 1. Professor Layton and the Lost Future (Nintendo), 2. Art Academy (Nintendo), 3. New Super Mario Bros. (Nintendo), 4. Toy Story 3 (Disney), 5. Lego Harry Potter (Warner Bros.)

Super Scribblenauts returns to the top of the DS charts in North America, overtaking New Super Mario Bros. and pushing former chart champion Mario vs. Donkey Kong: Mini-Land Mayhem out of the top five.

Ninokuni: Shikkoku no Madoushi sees a successful debut in Japan, while Professor Layton and the Lost Future heads the week's results in Europe.


PlayStation Portable
North America: 1. Kingdom Hearts: Birth by Sleep (Square Enix), 2. Madden NFL 11 (EA Sports), 3. NBA 2K11 (2K Sports), 4. God of War: Ghost of Sparta (SCEA), 5. Need for Speed: Most Wanted (EA Games).

Japan: 1. Monster Hunter Portable 3rd (Capcom), 2. Danganronpa: Kibou no Gakuen to Zetsubou no Koukousei (Spike), 3. World Soccer Winning Eleven 2011 (Konami), 4. Kamen Rider Climax Heroes OOO (Bandai), 5. Monster Hunter Portable 2nd G (Capcom).

UK: 1. FIFA 11 (EA Sports), 2. Football Manager Handheld 2011 (Sega), 3. Lego Harry Potter (Warner Bros.), 4. Kingdom Hearts: Birth by Sleep (Square Enix), 5. Toy Story 3 (Disney).

Kingdom Hearts: Birth by Sleep heads weekly PSP sales in the United States, as Madden NFL 11 and NBA 2K11 lead over the recently released God of War: Ghost of Sparta at second and third place.

Capcom's Monster Hunter Portable 3rd and Spike's Danganronpa debut to fast sales in Japan, while Sega's Football Manager Handheld 2011 competes with FIFA 11 for top honors in the UK.
