Screenwriters Erich and Jon Hoeber have teamed up with developer Bedlam Games for a new project titled Blood & Glory that will be pitched to both film and TV studios and game publishers jointly.
The project joins together the writing team behind the recent motion picture release REd with the developers behind the legally troubled Scratch: The Ultimate DJ
game into a somewhat unique partnership that places both the film and game sides of the project on equal footing.
Artwork and game design created by Bedlam will be used when pitching the idea to film and TV studios, for instance, while the script for the film feature will be part of the presentation to game publishers, according to a statement from talent agencies Digital Development Management and Verve, which joined to bring the partnership together.
"Creatively our partnership with Bedlam is a slam-dunk," said the Hoebers. "We create worlds. They create worlds. But we each do it differently. Putting our skill sets together has turned out to be incredibly successful."
"Historically, story has been a bit of an afterthought in video games, but that's changing fast," they continued. "At the same time, the Bedlam team beautifully conceptualizes the look and feel of the world of our film, which is a real creative luxury at the writing stage as well as a great selling tool."
The Hoebers are also the screenwriting team behind the Battleship film project, based on the board game, which is currently in production for a 2012 release.
