France Receives Modified Version Of Heavy Rain With New Rating

Despite launching Quantic Dream's Heavy Rain in Europe well over a year ago, Sony has decided to re-release the title in France, this time modifying the game to get a lower rating.

The new release, dubbed Heavy Rain Edition Modifiee, will carry a PEGI 16 rating in place of the original's PEGI 18 rating, and will tone down certain aspects of the game to make it more suitable for teen audiences, reports Eurogamer.

According to Heavy Rain Edition Modifiee's PEGI rating, the title contains "realistic looking violence, nudity of a sexual nature, and strong language." The PEGI 18 rating used descriptors such as "violence towards defenseless people," "sexual violence," and "extreme violence."

In North America, the ESRB game Heavy Rain a Mature rating, noting that the game contained "blood, intense violence, nudity, sexual content, strong language, use of drugs."

When Heavy Rain first launched in the UK, it received a 15 rating without cutting any content. At the time, the British Board of Film Classification said the game received this moderate rating because "these are obviously not real people, or real people acting, and it all depends on the level of blood and violence."
