Nintendo's eShop Releasing Zelda: Link's Awakening Today, Four Swords For Free

To commemorate The Legend of Zelda's 25th anniversary and yesterday's launch of DS's eShop, Nintendo will release Link's Awakening on the service today, and Four Swords for free this fall.

Recognized by those with discerning tastes as the finest Zelda release, Link's Awakening originally shipped for Gameboy in 1993 and received an enhanced Game Boy Color port in 1998.

Nintendo announced at its press conference today that the GBC edition, Link's Awakening DX, will appear on the portable Virtual Console section of its new eShop digital distribution platform. This will be the service's first GBC release.

The publisher also revealed that its four-player Four Swords content, originally included in the GBA port for The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past in 2002, will release on eShop this September as a free download.

Additionally, Nintendo disclosed that the next new title in the series, The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword for Wii, will ship this year alongside a special edition Gold Wii MotionPlus Remote.

The company revealed non-game plans for celebrating the franchise's 25th anniversary, too, including The Legend of Zelda symphony concerts coming to each region around the world, and two soundtrack CDs that it will offer to fans.
