Newsbrief: Nintendo today released an update for its Wii U console that significantly reduces the loading times, as well as providing added stability and performance.

According to a series of speed tests run by Nintendo Everything, the update gives the console an overall speed boost of around 45 percent when it comes to switching between menus and games.

The update also offers numerous tweaks across the board, including additional functionality for Miiverse, the console's internet browser, the eShop, and the Download Management tools.

You can find the full set of update notes in the press release.

Great, it's gone from completely unacceptable to just terrible.

Opps, wrong article.

But about the update, yes there is a significant improvement on wait times between app changes, and one very useful improvement to the internet navigation. I will have to see how the download and install while the system is off will work on my next e-shop purchase. I think DL in the background was already something the Wii U could do.

The latest update definitely improved the performance of the Wii U :).

Hope the new screen size setting will allow me to see the Dialog Text & HUD Display in Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate properly. Seeing that Capcom totally disregards the Title Safe Area. :|

Yeah, it sounds like it is a universal overscan fix. I wonder how it works in reality. Based on the description, it could just be a "shrink the screen until you can see the whole thing."

Is you TV able to get full 1080p? Because that game is in that resolution. If not change your Wii U settings to a lower res. Even if that doesn't work, I think a mode was added to enable you to tweak your screen size in the update.

Yeah. It works. Basically just shrinks the entire screen so that you can line up the arrows at the edges with your TV screen. My TV is 1080i CRT and the update fixed my problem. :)

45%?! Were they originally shipping a debug build?
