You can still be profitable ...

You can still be profitable but not have enough of a margin to make it worth it, too. So just stating that something is profitable or even more profitable just doesn 't say much.

It was still a profitable game and there are numerous other MMOs who only run on a few thousand players. The business decision wasn 't about cutting a game from the portfolio that was losing money.

I hear you Robert. Unfortunately the only articles Gamasutra and GameDev seem to post about F2P business models are basically huge opinion pieces swatting down strawmen. Either everyone talks past eachother in this discussion or maybe the well of good F2P articles has run dry.
