Video game programmer Philip Buuck has launched a new video series, Handmade Quake, that aims to showcase his work rebuilding id's seminal first-person shooter line by line.

It's a laudable educational venture that's much akin to Casey Muratori's ongoing efforts to document his work coding a game, Handmade Hero, from scratch

Buuck cites the Handmade Dev community of coding enthusiasts as a primary source of inspiration for his own Quake reconstruction efforts, and after announcing the project last month he's already made a few videos' worth of progress.
