Super Mario Galaxy 's planets wouldn't work so well in real life

Super Mario Galaxy's planets wouldn't work so well in real life

November 25, 2014 | By Mike Rose

Newsbrief: Students at a British university have put together a fun paper centered around the Super Mario Galaxy universe, stating that most of the planets presented in the game series would simply explode in real life.

This is due to the "the severe imbalance of gravitational pressure they would be exposed to given their modest size," claim the University of Leicester students.

Figures were calculated using distances based off how quickly Mario can navigate the circumference of most of the planets, and using the same surface gravity measure as Earth (given that Mario seems to fall back to the ground at the same speed on all the planets as he does on Earth.)

The tiny planets in the Super Mario Galaxy games would simply not have enough mass to balance and stabilize the gravitational pressure, argues the paper. It's a fun little read if you have a spare 10 minutes.
