New ADC talks: Denim Group on security, Dreamkind on education

New ADC talks: Denim Group on security, Dreamkind on education

October 4, 2013 | By Staff

GDC sister event App Developers Conference organizers have announced two new talks added to the November line-up: Dreamkind on building children's education apps without relying on major brands, and Denim Group on keeping their app users' information secure.

From the creators of the largest and longest-running game professional-focused Game Developers Conference (GDC), the brand new App Developers Conference (ADC) offers professionals a venue to share their knowledge about building, designing, marketing, and selling their apps. ADC will run November 5th-7th at the Los Angeles Convention Center and will be co-located with GDC Next.

How would a hacker dissect your app for security flaws? That's the pitch behind application security firm Denim Group CTO Dan Cornell's talk, titled 'Smart Phone, Dumb Apps: How the Bad Guys View Your Mobile Applications'. In this talk, he will explain how attackers extract information from mobile apps, how apps and their supporting web services expose app developers and users to potential attacks, and how to implement proactive designs and testing techniques to make mobile applications safer.

Dora the Explorer can do a lot to help sell your educational app -- but it's not the only way to do it. In 'Building a Successful Educational App for Kids....With or Without Elmo,' digital entertainment studio Dreamkind president Jay Schiffman (whose past clients include Disney, Nickelodeon, Mattel, and Sesame Workshop) will help developers navigate the kids' app store spaces, and make strategic product and marketing decisions that will help their apps stand out against powerful kids' brands.

These sessions join a number of previously announced talks by Netflix, Pandora, Evernote, and more -- all of which are now available on our expanding interactive Session Scheduler. Recent session additions include game and app developer Eddie Lee (Kyoto) on designing apps to take advantage of new 3D gesture input tech, and rewards network Kiip on pinpointing and monetizing the important moments in app users' digital lives.

Also of note, ADC organizers recently shared survey results from over 250 app developers on issues they face currently, including piracy and discoverability on app stores. Those interested in the study can view all of the results for free.

Online registration is in full-swing for ADC and the co-located GDC Next; register now and save up to $200 on ADC, GDC Next, or a combined VIP All Access Pass. For all the latest news on ADC, subscribe for updates via Facebook, Twitter, or RSS. Also, check out GDC Next's recently announced talks: Chris Roberts on the community-building lessons he learned while crowdfunding Star Citizen for $20 million, and Kongregate COO Emily Greer on analytics best (and worst) practices.

Gamasutra, GDC and ADC are sibling organizations under parent UBM Tech.
