Michelle Chen's Blog

Hi! I’m Michelle Chen.

I am a programmer with more than 8 years experience in game development (Here are some of my projects).

I am the 7th Winner of Toptal STEM Scholarships for Women, which enabled me to pursue a MSc in Video Game Enterprise and Production at Birmingham City University in the UK (Read more about my experience at Gamer Camp). I was also nominated for Extra Mile Awards: Student of the Year, and awarded a Graduate+ Bronze Award. I am also a Student Award winner at the European Women in Games Conference 2017.

As part of my Masters by Practice, I am making a point-and-click puzzle game about depression to promote mental health awareness (I blog a lot about my game development process, and I am also always on the look out for more collaborators on HitRecord).

In my spare time, I join game jams and work on personal projects (Check out my games).

I am a newly minted BAFTA Crew Games Member and STEM Ambassador. I also volunteer at game industry events, such as Casual Connect and London Games Festival.

I’m also currently on the look out for a job. Please hire me? (Here’s my resume)

Nice to meet you!

Can "Hard Core" games be simplified to appeal to "Social" Gamers? I think so, and I'm going to look at some board games for ideas.

Estimation takes practice. It also takes labor. It takes so much labor it may be a good idea to estimate the time it will take to make the estimate, especially if you are asked to estimate something big. So true.
