Sony Confirms PSP Go Production Halted 'To Focus on NGP'
Sony has confirmed that production of the PSP Go handheld has ceased, allowing the company to focus on its Next Generation Portable release.
Reports were circulating
yesterday after a Japanese Sony Shop employee at a store in Shinjuku, Tokyo noted that a Sony representative said the handheld was no long in production, and no more stock would be released.
In a statement to Japanese website AV Watch, Sony Computer Entertainment said that it was no longer shipping
PSP Go consoles, and instead "focusing on the NGP".
The company noted that production of the PSP-3000 will not be halted. "We will continue to focus on PSP-3000," it said, as the handheld "continues to sell".
The PSP Go has had rocky sales since its release in 2009, with Gamasutra analyst Matt Matthews estimating
a "slow death at retail" for the handheld.
Sony Computer Entertainment has dropped the price of the PSP Go multiple times over the last six months, with a price drop to $199
late last year, and another drop to $149.99
