Zattikka Acquires Monty Python License For Social Games

London-based start-up Zattikka has acquired the Monty Python's Flying Circus license to create social games based on the revered brand with help from the original comedy group.

The casual and social game developer intends to first release a Facebook game paying homage to the "characters, settings, sketches, and comedic approach" of the 1970s program. It will then follow-up with what it describes as a "web presence" designed to maximize the game's reach.

Zattikka is working with the Monty Python team -- which includes Graham Chapman, John Cleese, Terry Gilliam, Eric Idle, Terry Jones and Michael Palin -- on the project. The studio says director Gilliam, who produced the series' iconic animations, has been particularly involved in the process.

Founded in 2009, Zattikka has more than 100 social/casual mobile and online titles in its catalog. It raised $5.5 million in July to further expand its library, which also includes another famous British brand, Mr. Bean. The developer will reveal more about the Monty Python game next month.

"Monty Python is one of the most iconic comedy licenses around, but there has been no new material for over 20 years," says Zattikka CEO Tim Chaney. "By acquiring these rights we will be transporting Monty Python into the 21st Century, with a totally new experience for their unique comedy that will delight old and new fans alike."

Will Graham Chapman, John Cleese, Terry Gilliam, Eric Idle, Terry Jones and Michael Palin be involved in making whatever is made? They are Monty Python.

(Of course, at least one of them is now deceased...)

Gilliam, with his animation background seems a natural.
