Online casual game portal Big Fish Games says its users have been responsible for more than a billion game downloads over the last eight years.
Seattle-based Big Fish was founded in 2002 as primarily a traditional online Flash-based and PC download portal, but it has since expanded to encompass social games, iPhone games, MMOs, and more. Its portal includes games developed both by external studios and by Big Fish's multiple teams. The company's internal teams are known for series like Mystery Case Files, Hidden Expedition, Azada, and others.
"This milestone underscores the strength of our franchise and the growing demand for high-quality games from our studios and valued developer partners," said CEO Jeremy Lewis in a statement. "We look forward to expanding our reach and driving the overall growth of this $2.75 billion casual games market."
In a separate recent press release, Big Fish said it distributes 1.5 million games per day worldwide. If that rate of distribution holds constant, the company will accrue another billion game downloads in less than two years.
Over half of them are Hidden Object Games. in fact the whole casual game market is flooded with them... They are the fast food of games, easy to make using a basic prebuilt game template, they churn a new one out ever day.
