Newsbrief: Japanese fighting game specialist SNK Playmore, the developer-publisher behind franchises including Fatal Fury and The King of Fighters, has rebranded, and will now simply be known as "SNK."

The news comes eight months after the company was acquired by Chinese investors, with the majority going to a company called Ledo Millennium, which paid $63.5 million to acquire 81.25 percent of SNK.

Founded by Eikichi Kawasaki, SNK rose to prominence in the '80s and '90s thanks to the success of its Neo-Geo family of consoles and arcade machines, namely the Neo-Geo Pocket Color, and the popularity of franchises such as Metal SlugFatal Fury, and King of Fighters.
