A new project from the makers of Myst and Riven

A new project from the makers of Myst and Riven
October 17, 2013 | By Kris Ligman

Cyan, Inc., developer of the celebrated puzzle game Myst and its sequel Riven, has announced a new game in the style of those lauded titles.

Called Obduction, the game is designed as an atmospheric first-person adventure in the spirit of its predecessors. It is currently being developed for both Windows and MacOS and, like many other game projects these days, is seeking crowdfunding.

"We've had so many requests lately from people looking for that same feeling of exploration that Myst provided 20 years ago, but with today's technology," states Cyan co-founder and Myst co-developer Rand Miller. "Obduction will offer an experiential alternative to an audience that may want something different from the current crop of bestsellers."

This year marks the 20th anniversary of the launch of Myst, originally released on Mac in 1993 and since ported to countless other platforms. Obduction, the developer says, "will take what Cyan knows about creating deeply immersive worlds and apply it to an entirely new game."

The game is currently targeted for a mid-to-late 2015 release.
