Autodesk has integrated Mixamo's 3D character animation service into the latest version of its 3ds Max and 3ds Max Design animation software as an embedded store.

With the newly released 2013 versions of 3ds Max, users can search, customize, and purchase licenses to characters and motion clips in the Autodesk Animation Store without leaving the software.

The Mixamo-powered service offers hundreds of characters, as well as over a thousand editable animations from 3DS Max Biped and CAT characters. The royalty-free content is aggregated from companies such as Original Force, Radiance, and China West Coast.

Autodesk says the built-in store will benefit a number of industries, and points out that casual game developers in particular can potentially reduce their production time by licensing motions for their games and characters, instead of creating them from scratch.

3ds Max is used by a large number of game developers, including Harmonix (Dance Central), Eidos Montreal (Deus Ex: Human Revolution), Capcom (Street Fighter IV), and Epic Games (Gears of War).

A video demonstration for the Autodesk Animation Store in 3DS Max is available here.
