[In this weekly column, Gamasutra rounds up the most popular paid and free gaming applications on the Android Market as of today, with Modern Combat 3, Cut the Rope and Where's My Water? currently ranking among the platform's top downloads.]

This week's top paid titles are:

1. Modern Combat 3: Fallen Nation ($6.99)
2. Cut the Rope ($0.99)
3. Where's My Water? ($0.99)
4. UNO ($0.99)
5. Grand Theft Auto III ($2.99)
6. 9mm HD ($0.99)
7. Modern Combat 2: Black Pegasus ($0.99)
8. Fruit Ninja ($1.26)
9. Asphalt 6: Adrenaline HD ($0.99)
10. Doodle Jump ($0.99)

A recent round of price drops puts a number of Gameloft-published titles among this week's top Android Market sellers, including the company's racing game Asphalt 6 and shooters 9mm and Modern Combat 2.

Last week's sales leader Grand Theft Auto III falls to fifth place in today's results, as Gameloft's first-person shooter Modern Combat 3 and ZeptoLab's Cut the Rope rise up to claim the top two chart spots.

Here are this week's top free Android game applications:

1. Angry Birds
2. Words With Friends Free
3. Word Search
4. Shoot the Apple
5. Fruit Ninja Free
6. Angry Birds Rio
7. Angry Birds Seasons
8. UNO Free
9. Where's My Water? Free
10. Plumber

Rovio's Angry Birds and Newtoy's Words With Friends once again head the Android Market's free charts, while Melimots' recently updated puzzler Word Search climbs up to third place after finishing seventh last week.

DroidHen's Shoot the Apple also moves up the charts this week, overtaking longtime favorites Fruit Ninja Free and Angry Birds Rio.
