Japanese Sales Charts–Week Ending August 8
The Japanese market has continued its recovery with the first week of sales to record more than a million units of sales since May. World Soccer Winning Eleven 8
(aka Pro Evolution Soccer 4
) lead sales with approximately 697,000 units in its first week. This represents a better performance than its immediate predecessor and could give confidence to Konami officials that their company will easily reach its sales target of 1.5 million units.
Nintendo’s latest Legend of Stafi
title–one of its few franchises not to be exported to the West–also did well with 42,000 units sold, although other new entries, including SOCOM II
, fared less well.
In hardware sales, PlayStation 2 surged ahead with a market share of 47.46 percent, followed by Game Boy Advance at 42.63 percent, GameCube at 9.46 percent, and Xbox at 0.29 percent.
