Producer's Forum

The purpose of this forum is to create an area where game producers can share their knowledge and experience with each other, working toward our common goal of creating better games.

This covers a lot of territory, from the general ("Help! I've fallen behind in my schedule") to the specific ("Is anyone else having trouble with version 1.4 of Acme Corp's Wondertool?").

All aspects of managing game development are fair game here. Questions about design philosophy or programming techniques are probably bettered handled elsewhere on GAMASUTRA.

To get the ball rolling, I'll start off with both a general question and a specific one.

General Question:

Games always seem to come in late and over budget. Must it always be this way? Are we doomed to chaos? Is there some safe haven of development where projects almost always behave themselves? Or is this phenomenon so much a part of our culture that the best a producer can hope to do is accept the inevitable and work to limit the damage?

Specific Question:

We have just begun to evaluate Microsoft Team Manager 97 for tracking tasks in an upcoming project. Can anyone who has used this tool tell me about how effective it is and how well it integrates with MS Project?
