Amazon/Twitch takes 2014 games acquisitions over $9B (so far)

Twitch is a great deal for Amazon beyond a competitive win, as it accelerates both its video and games initiatives. The $970M deal pushes games acquisitions to $9.2B in 2014 so far, closing in on double 2013's full year record of $5.6B. The big games acquisition sectors are $3.4B mobile games, $3.2B games tech (where we classify Twitch), $1.7B MMO games and $0.9B console games, with the "consolidation crush" driven by mobile growth, mobile cannibalization, regional realignment, legacy pivots and market cycle (see the 5 drivers expained on Digi-Capital's blog).
