George Menhal III's Blog

I am currently completing my undergraduate education, expecting to earn a bachelor's in Information Technology by December 2015.  I have two-and-a-half years of professional programming experience to my credit, building business applications both internally and as a consultant for large corporations.

My dream is to design and develop video games or otherwise highly interactive software for a living.  Currently, I am developing a project using Unreal Engine 4 and Oculus Development Kit 2.  My goal is to release a free VR experience through the Oculus platform store upon release of the consumer device.  I have a background in creative writing and programming, but I am happiest when asserting myself as a game designer.

I enjoy the autonomy and creative freedom of working on my own, but I would love to see my work amplified by a wonderful team of talented individuals who care about the medium as much as I do.  Always seeking a proper role within the industry beyond my own independent development efforts, I am willing to travel, relocate, and crunch!  I am not tied down to any one location, nor am I preoccupied with a significant family life.  Please be sure to contact me either here on Gamasutra or connect with me through LinkedIn if you would like to speak with me about career opportunities!

Although I am not actively seeking employment at this time, I will seriously consider any offer either within the video game industry or based out of the greater Los Angeles area.  Due to my career aspirations and laid-back personality, I am convinced that L.A. is the perfect place for me!

Playing Alien Isolation in the Oculus Rift is one of the most memorable gaming experiences I 've ever had, to say the least. The tension is completely unbearable. As it stands right now, Alien Isolation is my favorite game of 2014. I did NOT expect to love the game this ...

I wonder if releasing Smash ...

I wonder if releasing Smash Bros on 3DS will help push Wii U hardware. My thinking on this is that there are way more 3DS consoles out in the wild than Wii U, and releasing a 3DS version of the game was a way of enticing people to buy a ...

I 've been saying this ...

I 've been saying this since before I even tried the HMD out for myself, but we no longer need the reticle to be tied to the center of the viewing frustum. This is what all my work with Oculus right now is centered on--finding a more intuitive way to ...

@Bob r n r nNovelty ...

@Bob r n r nNovelty phase or not, I think the hardware configuration gives the opportunity for new experiences that could not be achieved without it. I am an independent developer / designer and the bulk of my work with Oculus right now is going towards what I 'm calling ...

FF XV needs to be ...

FF XV needs to be released for PC. Besides Sony 's exclusive games, the only thing I ever play on PS consoles are JRPG games that are never released for PC. As a matter of fact, JRPGs are the best reason to own a Sony or MS console. In the ...
