DanielThomas MacInnes's Blog

I am a writer and artist currently living in Minneapolis, MN.  I've been writing about video games for fanzines, blogs, and professional magazines for almost 20 years.  Feel free to visit my sites and share your opinions.  You're always welcome!

Daniel Thomas Vol 4 is my current video games blog.  I write essays on various topics, from modern to classic games, from the point-of-view of an aging "classic gamer."  And, yes, video games were better 20 years ago, but I'm hopeful for the future.

The Ghibli Blog is my blog devoted to Japan's Studio Ghibli, animation, and the movies.  It was launched in 2006.  It's my goal to catalog the long careers of directors Hayao Miyazaki and Isao Takahata, as well as their peers.

Daniel Thomas.org is my original arts website, launched in January, 2003.  It is the home of my art galleries and essays on video games, movies, and politics.

This is encouraging news. More people are realizing that it 's cheaper to just buy a marker pen and scribble the number 25 on their existing copy of John Madden Football than pay the 60. As for the next gen, if history is any judge, EA will strip out all ...

The Xbox One is not ...

The Xbox One is not a traditional videogame system. It is a multimedia set-top machine. This message needs to be repeated until even the most stubborn soul understands its message. This is the reason Microsoft entered this business a dozen years ago, and has been the dream of the computer ...

But two caveats: 1 most consumers don 't care about hardware power, and 2 the ones that do are firmly in Sony 's Microsoft 's camp. r n r nIt 's critical to understand that Nintendo appeals to a different community than Sony/Microsoft. It 's the difference between Pop Music ...

The decision to remove the ...

The decision to remove the expensive 3D display in Nintendo 's handheld is long overdue, and I 'm glad to see the price return to a respectable number. I still cannot understand why Nintendo and Sony, with Vita thought a 250 handheld in this economy would be a success. To ...
